About Me

I'm Dr. Shefali Batra, L.Ac., DAcCHM. I completed my Doctorate at Pacific College of Health and Sciences in 2024 and am a Licensed Acupuncturist in New York.

My Focus

I specialize in women's health through Chinese medicine, with a particular focus on menstrual and reproductive health. I work with patients navigating irregular or painful periods, PMS, PCOS/PMOS, endometriosis, fertility challenges, and the transition through perimenopause and menopause, along with the chronic pain, stress, anxiety, and sleep issues that often intersect with hormonal health. My focus is helping women understand their cycles, manage symptoms, and feel more balanced through every stage of life.

What I've Seen in Practice

Since 2021, I've worked in clinical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and integrative wellness settings, progressing from an acupuncture office assistant to a licensed TCM practitioner and herbal clinician, providing acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping, moxibustion, and electroacupuncture. My clinical training included internships with Columbia University Health Systems, the Institute for Family Health, and the VA NY Harbor Healthcare System, alongside doctoral and master's coursework spanning endocrinology, gastroenterology, cardiology, immunology, neurology, psychology, and orthopedics.

I combine TCM diagnostics with facial and body acupuncture, herbal formulas, gua sha, and electroacupuncture for clients focused on skin health, while teaching sustainable at-home skincare and herbal protocols. I've also spent two years teaching at Pacific College of Health and Sciences, as a teaching assistant for acupuncture points and Chinese herbal medicine, and tutoring students in Oriental Medicine theory, bioscience, and herbology.

Through my health coaching work with Elix, I work virtually with clients on hormonal balance, cycle health, nutrition, stress, sleep, and sustainable behavior change, work that's sharpened my ability to look past individual symptoms toward lasting, realistic lifestyle change.

My Philosophy

Chinese medicine looks at the whole person rather than isolating symptoms. A woman's hormones, cycle, digestion, sleep, stress, and emotions are all connected, and I try to understand those connections with every patient. Two women can share the same symptom but have entirely different underlying patterns and needs, so I pair TCM diagnostics with a thorough conversation about history and daily life to make care personal rather than one-size-fits-all. I also want women to know they don't have to accept feeling unwell as normal. Difficult cycles, stress, pain, and poor sleep deserve to be explored, not dismissed. My goal is to help each person understand her body and feel more empowered in caring for it, for the long term.

Why I Love Being an Elix Health Coach

I work one-on-one with community members, connecting their symptoms, health history, and lifestyle to build personalized, Chinese medicine-based wellness plans. My favorite part is building trusting relationships and helping people turn recommendations into realistic daily habits around nutrition, stress, sleep, and overall well-being.
