About Me

I'm Dr. Megan MacLaggan, DAcCHM, L.Ac., Dipl. OM. I earned my Master's in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in 2019, and my Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine from AOMA in 2022. I'm NCCAOM board certified.

My Focus

My focus is herbal medicine and bridging the gap between Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine. I spend most of my time on hormonal health — fibroids, endometriosis, adenomyosis, fertility, and perimenopause — along with the pain, stress, and mental health that so often come with them. I also work with food as medicine, helping people build a more holistic relationship with their daily life, not just their symptoms.

What I've Seen in Practice

I opened my small private practice in Mexico City directly after graduation. Though it was meant to be general medicine, little by little most of my patients came in with reproductive health issues: period pain, mood swings, endometriosis, fibroids, infertility, hormonal acne, PCOS/PMOS. It's one of the facets where TCM has helped me most in my own life, too. I've managed fibroids with it myself, and it feels right to share what's worked for me with my patients.

My Philosophy

I'm grateful to be working in this niche. Chinese medicine has a lot to offer here, especially given how under-researched female physiology still is in modern medicine, a gap that leaves a lot of people without proper answers or a path forward. Chinese medicine has been treating conditions specific to the female body for thousands of years; traditional Chinese obstetrics and gynecology goes deep, and treats the female body with real honor, as its own complex system. That respect alone goes a long way, especially for women who've felt dismissed by the care they've gotten elsewhere.

Why I Love Being an Elix Health Coach

1:1 consultations with Doctors of Chinese Medicine are a pretty unique thing Elix offers, especially in the age of automation, a real conversation about what someone needs, or how things have been going. Herbal medicine can be confusing and responds best to a personalized approach, so it's valuable to have a live touchpoint; sometimes you just need to talk to another human to confirm you're doing it right, that your progress is normal, or whatever it is. The number of people I get to speak to who tell me their lives have changed by improving their health and outlook with Chinese medicine is astounding. Basically, I get to teach people that they don't have to live with the struggles we've been taught were just "part of being a woman."
